Film screening: Antonia (2006). Directed by Tata Amaral, featuring Negra Li, Cindy Mendes, Leilah Moreno e Jaqueline Simão. Coral Award/ Havana Film Festival (2006).
Preta, Barbarah, Mayah and Lena, friends since childhood, are backup singers in a rap group fronted by men, performing to huge audiences in the Sao Paulo favelas. They convince the guys to let them perform one song of their own and their music lifts the crowd. The four young women form their own group, Antonia, dreaming of the opportunity to make something of their lives. They have to draw strength and courage to continue and stand against poverty, sexism and the everyday danger of life in the favela.
